PRAYER FOR THOSE WHO NEED TO EAT ON YOM KIPPUR

Master of the Universe,
Supreme and Mighty King,
You gave us a holy day that is wondrous in its holiness
For atonement and forgiveness
And its name is Yom Kippur.

On this day, the entire creation stands before You in the awe of judgment.
And Your nation, the beloved people of Israel, prays to You
So that You may forgive them
And they may emerge righteous in judgment and clear of any sin.
And You, in Your great mercy, have commanded us to fast from eve to eve
So that we will be innocent before You,
And so that we return to You with all our hearts.

I, too, Your son/daughter wish to fast
So that I can fulfill that which You have commanded
“And your souls shall want.”

Merciful Father, You created me, You breathed into me a pure soul,
So that I might fulfill my purpose in this physical world.
It is revealed and known before You, Creator of all things,
That I am but clay in the Hands of the Creator.
Due to my illness, I am unable to fast this year on the tenth of Tishrei
And if I were to fast, it would harm my health
So that I would be unable to continue to serve You
And to perform the commandments
That You have given us with Your great love.

Merciful Father, with a heavy heart, I asked rabbis
And they have directed me
That my annulment of this commandment is my fulfilling of it --
That if my health requires that I eat today, I will thus fulfill Your will.
And since Your messengers allowed me to eat on this holy day,

I ask You, please accept my eating as part of my service to You.
And, when I will eat this year,
May it be considered as though I fasted the entire day.

May every morsel that I bring into my mouth be with great joy
And with the intention to fulfill Your will
And to believe with complete belief
That everything that G-d brings about is all for the good.

And more, merciful Father, please!
I pray to You, with Your great mercy
Please send me a complete recovery.
Breathe strength and life into my body and soul,
So that I can serve You all the days of my life,
And so that I may make known Your Oneness
And the greatness of Your awesome Name in this entire world
And that I may merit length of days and years in good health.

May it be Your will that I not be shamed
In this world and in the world to come.
In the merit of this food that I am eating in holiness on this holiest of days,
May we merit the ultimate redemption
And the fulfillment of Your commandments with love,
Amein.
